Discover Aosta through the ages
Aosta reveals its many faces!
More than two thousand years of history have been preserved in the city's urban fabric and in the way its territory has been laid out: its remarkable remains from Roman times (the Arch of Augustus, the Porta Praetoria, the Theatre, the Forum with its Cyptoporticus) and the extremely rich evidence of the Middle Ages in the Cathedral and the Saint-Ours complex. Just as if you were leafing through the pages of a book, following the historical figures from whom the streets take their names, this pleasant walk will bring the past back to life, helping you to understand the development of this little "Rome of the Alps" right up to the present day.
The beauties of Jovençan
and Aymavilles: the land
that tells its story
A walk that begins in the heart of Jovençan country, the "Land of Ancient Remedies", and starts where the medieval church of Saint-Ours stands, before following the traces of history that lead to the extraordinary site of Châtelair. A place that bears witness to the past through its remains, a place of legend and suggestion. Climbing up the hill of Les Crêtes, between Jovençan and Aymavilles, immersed in the vineyards, you can see the magnificent Château de Aymavilles dominating the area: an elegant residence that reveals its history, from the medieval body to its Baroque and modern appearance.
The tour continues on to Cogne, home to the Gran Paradiso National Park, where the small, hidden village of Pont d'Ael awaits discovery, offering the magic of a leap back in time. A true architectural masterpiece: a private bridge-aqueduct dating from 3 BC overlooking the valley, immersed in an extraordinary natural landscape. A journey to the roots of authenticity and local distinctiveness.

The Great
Saint Bernard Valley:
living history
Since ancient times, the Grand Saint Bernard pass has been an important route for communications and trade between Italy and Switzerland. The Via Francigena passed through here in the Middle Ages, and memorable figures such as Napoleon crossed it, a fact that is remembered every year during the "Coumba frèida" carnival festivities. At the heart of the village of Saint-Rhémy-en-Bosses is the Château, a building dating back to the 11th century and later transformed. The town is still alive and kicking thanks to the art exhibitions that the Commune organises both inside the Château and in the open air.
Tours include the Col and its treasures, the hospice of the Chanoines du Grand-Saint-Bernard, the Saint-Bernard dogs at the Barry Foundation, traces of Napoleon's visit, the lake and its magical setting, the village of Saint-Rhémy and the village of Bosses with its castle.
Jambon de Bosses AOP
A sweet union between taste and tradition
The establishment, where you can visit the production and seasoning rooms, is the result of a collaboration between the Commune and private entrepreneurs to promote Jambon de Bosses. The product, which has a long history in the Grand Saint-Bernard area, dating back to 1397, has had its specificity recognised by the PDO designation.
A cured ham spiced with mountain herbs, produced at an altitude of 1600 m in the commune of Saint-Rhémy-en-Bosses according to ancient traditions. The label embodies all the characteristics of this valley: the dry, breezy climate, its particular exposure to the crossroads of the air flows coming down from the mountain passes, the mountain herbs, the juniper berries and the alpine hay on which the ham is matured. A unique product that tells the story of the Grand Saint-Bernard region.
